The Brain Dead Ghost Echo by EarthQuaker Devices is a spring reverb pedal that accurately recreates the unmistakeable sound of a vintage reverb tank. Boasting the same response and feel as a classic spring reverb, the Brain Dean Ghost Echo turns things up to 11 with super smooth dwells that are not possible with other reverb pedals. A spring reverb is a hard thing to emulate as it responds very differently to different playing styles. EarthQuaker have managed to do it though, so when you play staccato notes, you'll be rewarded with that lush slap back-like sound that is synonymous with spring reverb. As soon as you change to fluid lines, it changes to a deep reverb with a fat, luscious sound.

With the three controls on the front you can really dig in to the details of your reverb. The Depth control sets how intense you want the reverb to be. The Dwell control adjusts the decay and how long it takes for a note to die out. Finally, Attack sets a delay on the pick attack of the wet signal. This is a great feature of the pedal to play around with for that authentic spring feel!

  • Attack: Adjusts the length of the pre-delay, from 30ms at minimum to about 150ms at maximum. When the Dwell is set to self-oscillate, this will change the pitch of the oscillations.
  • Dwell: Adjusts the length of the decay. This will start to self oscillate around 3 O'clock and the pitch of the oscillations can be changed by turning the Attack control.
  • Depth: Mixes in the wet signal with the dry. Unity is around noon and everything after is boosted.

Please Note: This device takes a standard 9 volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative centre barrel. Pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies, or multiple isolated-output supplies, are always recommended. Pedals will make extra noise if there is ripple or unclean power. Switching-type power supplies, daisy chains and non-pedal specific power supplies do not filter dirty power as well and let through unwanted noise. DO NOT RUN AT HIGHER VOLTAGES!
